Manage the status of orders

Use an order status to help users and customers identify the progress of an order. You can add and update the status of an order, and then email the customer a notification of the change.

Example: Order status changed from Payment received to Dispatched

Create an order status

The system provides a number of default order statuses. You can customize the available options by creating an order status.

The workflow for creating an order status involves opening an existing order.

  1. Search and open an existing order. See Search for an order .
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click the icon next to the Status menu.
  4. Click Add New.
  5. Enter a status name and click Save.

Set a default status for new orders

When visitors purchase products on your online store, a default order status is assigned to all new orders.

You can change the status that is set for new orders. The workflow for setting a new order status involves opening an existing order.

  1. Search and open an existing order. See Search for an order .
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click the icon next to the Status menu.
  4. Click a status from the list.
  5. Check the Default option, and then click Save.

Update the status of an order

You can update an order status and automatically trigger a notification email that is sent to the customer.

  1. Open the order by searching for the order. See Search for an order .
  2. Click Edit
  3. Select an option from the Status menu, and then click Save.

Notify a customer of an order status update

You have the option to automatically trigger a notification email to a customer when an order status is changed.

The workflow for setting an order status to trigger a notification email involves opening an existing order.

  1. Search and open an existing order. See Search for an order .
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click the icon next to the Status menu.
  4. For each status to trigger notifications, select the Notify Customer checkbox next to the status.
