Business Catalyst End of life announcement - find out more details.

This article covers the migration of sites created in Adobe Muse and published on Business Catalyst as an Adobe Managed site.

Migrating a site to Adobe Portfolio

A "Migrate to Portfolio" screen is displayed right after you login into your Business Catalyst site Admin Console.

Should you consider migrating your site to Adobe Portfolio, just click on the Migrate to Portfolio button to start the process.

The system will create a new Portfolio site under your Adobe ID account. Then, it will start migrating your BC site content and customize the Portfolio site layout in order to match yours.

Once completed you’ll notice a success screen that gives you the option to preview and edit your new Portfolio trial site.

Note: the new site on Adobe Portfolio is a draft site and not accessible to other users until published.

Editing your Adobe Portfolio site

The automatic migration of your Business Catalyst site into Adobe Portfolio takes your site content and uploads it to a newly created Adobe Portfolio Site. During this process, we try to match your existing site structure and layout as much as possible. However, since the two platforms are radically different, the resulting site will likely require customization before being published.

To start with, you might want to take a look at Adobe Portfolio quick start guide: https://help.myportfolio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035996893-What-is-Adobe-Portfolio-. This will get you familiar with the user interface and different components of an Adobe Portfolio website.

Once you are familiar with it, you can start customizing your site layout, re-arrange and update content, or define custom settings.

While editing your Portfolio site, you can always preview how it will look and function when it is live. At the bottom, there is a "Preview" button that will take you to that view. Once there, you can view your site as it would appear on a desktop, a tablet (in both Portrait and Landscape mode) and a phone (in both Portrait and Landscape mode) browser. Once you're done Previewing your site, simply click "Back to edit" and you will be taken back to the Editor.

Publishing your Adobe Portfolio website

Once you are ready for your site to go live, you can publish!

While in Portfolio editing mode, hit the green "Publish Site" button. Once your Creative Cloud license is validated, your site will be published!

Transfer your custom domain to Adobe Portfolio

If your Business Catalyst site used a custom domain, it is time to set it up in Portfolio and finish the migration.  For more information on BC Site Domains, visit: https://docs.worldsecuresystems.com/user-manual/site-settings/site-domains

Since Adobe Portfolio only supports A records for custom domains (the equivalent of BC external domains), the first step would be to make sure your domain is set to use the registrar’s nameservers. If your domain was already set and functioning in BC as external domain, you can skip this first step.

Setting the nameservers is done by logging into your domain provider's DNS management interface and modifying DNS Records.

  1. Setting GoDaddy nameservers: https://uk.godaddy.com/help/set-nameservers-for-domains-hosted-and-registered-with-godaddy-12316
  2. Setting NetRegistry nameservers: https://support.netregistry.com.au/articles/nr/Modifying-domain-name-servers-or-DNS-records/?fs=RelatedArticle
  3. Setting 1&1 nameservers: https://www.ionos.com/help/domains/set-up-and-manage-an-external-domain-at-11-ionos/choosing-name-servers-for-external-domains/#c3038

Once you have set the nameservers, you can proceed with updating the DNS records to add A records pointing to Adobe Portfolio IPs. You can find detailed information about this step here: https://help.myportfolio.com/hc/en-us/articles/209448927-Using-a-custom-domain-with-Adobe-Portfolio

Please allow up to 72 hours for the domain setting to be applied. During the migration process your Business Catalyst website will continue to be live and available to your customers.
